PTE Home A1: for work and family visas

PTE Home A1 measures your English speaking and listening skills at CEFR* Level A1. You receive either a 'pass' or 'fail' result.
* CEFR: Common European Framework of Reference for language proficiency

Use PTE Home A1 for the following visas

• Spouse/Partner visa
• Parent of a Dependent visa
• Representative of an Overseas Business visa
• Tier 2 Sportsperson visa

How will I be tested?

To take PTE Home you will need to book a test and go to a secure Pearson test center. You will use a computer with a headset to read and listen to questions and provide spoken answers from 32 questions for up to 22 minutes.

PTE Home A2: for extending an existing A1 visa

PTE Home A2 is the right test for you if you want to extend a visa for ‘Spouse/partner’ or ‘Parent of a dependent’ after 2.5 years, and you need to certify that you can communicate in English at CEFR* level A2.

How will I be tested?

To take a PTE Home test you will need to attend a secure Pearson test center. You will use a computer and headset to listen to, read and answer questions. The PTE Home A2 test has 30-33 items and lasts up to 25 minutes. There are 3 question types:

1. Repeat sentence
2. Describe image
3. Retell story

Task You will be asked to answer 22–23 questions in the ‘Repeat Sentence’ segment. Watch the video for details.

PTE Home B1: for settlement

The PTE Home B1 test is approved by UK Visas and Immigration government agency for both settlement (indefinite leave to remain) and citizenship applications.

How will I be tested?

To take PTE Home you will need to book a test and go to a secure Pearson test center. You will use a computer and headset to listen to, read, and answer questions. PTE Home B1 has 32 questions and lasts up to 22 minutes. There are 4 question types:

1. Repeat sentence
2. Describe image
3. Retell story
4. Story: Listen and Answer
